What you can expect: a synopsis of our restoration services.
A visit to the shop with the painting to identify the cause of the discoloration and general condition of the frame is a necessary first step. The fading effect of your painting is usually caused by either both or one of the following reasons: airborne agents such as smoke or aged darkened varnish. Once identified, we can provide you with a realistic estimate for the cleaning operation.
This service is done at no cost to the prospective customer.
Cleaning is accomplished by the careful use of cleaning agents which chemically dissolve the dirt film, gradually one section at a time. Removal of old varnish is the most tedious and time consuming.
A torn or ruptured canvas is repaired by applying a linen patch on the back side of the damaged area. Paint is then applied to match the color, thickness, and texture to present a seamless repair.
Sagging canvas is usually due to an imposed pressure or the stretcher frame shifting away from its original shape.
We think it is imperative to retain the original frame if possible and can be accomplished by; a simple cleaning, minor touch-ups refastening the joint connections, and hardware replacement.
